The Western Ghats People Protection Committee will launch an indefinite relay hunger strike in front of the Civil Station here on Wednesday, demanding that the State government make clear its final stance on the implementation of the K. Kasturirangan committee report.
The committee, which was on a warpath against the panel report, will resume its agitations, involving the settler farmers and their family members in the areas categorised as ecologically sensitive.
Assurance soughtLeaders said that the protest would be called off only after getting a solid assurance from the government that it would freeze the Kasturirangan panel recommendations and issue a final notification on the matter before the commencement of the Lok Sabha elections.
Leaders of the committee, including chairman Antony Kozhuvanal, said the protest would be continued indefinitely with the participation of the affected people from the already listed ecologically sensitive areas.
They also hinted that participation of maximum women representatives from the rural areas would be ensured throughout the agitation to convince the government about the gravity of the issue.
The participation of various other organisations, including the action committees of hillside farmers, would be ensured in the relay hunger strike.
