College teacher’s cars parked at home set ablaze

January 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:04 am IST - Kozhikode:

Two cars parked in front of the house of M. Madhavikutty, a teacher at Zamorin’s Guruvayoorappan College, were set afire by miscreants on Saturday.

The police said the incident, at Kodal Nadakkavu, was the continuation of a series of recent political clashes between two prominent student organisations on college campus.

Following a complaint filed by Ms. Madhavikutty, the Nallalam police registered a case under section 436 of the IPC (mischief by fire or explosive substance). Fingerprint experts gathered evidence.

The Fire and Rescue Services and the residents managed to douse the flames. One vehicle was completely destroyed. The window panes of the house too were damaged.

The teacher was being targeted as a few students were expelled from the college on the charge of leading a political clash. Some of them had reportedly intercepted her vehicle recently, the police said.
