Minister for Agriculture K. P. Mohanan has promised to revive coconut processing centres that have been shut down and to install coconut driers there to increase production of coconut oil.

Preparatory to reopening of coconut processing centres for coconut oil production, procurement of raw coconut through Kerafed was being stepped up, the Minister said inaugurating a cattle-agriculture exhibition and farmers seminar organised jointly by Kuttiadi grama panchayat, State Horticulture Mission, and agriculture and animal husbandry departments at Vadayam South Government LP School.

The Minister also announced financial support to farmers’ groups in blocks and grama panchayats making use of central government funds available for that purpose.

The Agriculture department had been instructed to find out ways to ensure better prices for farm produces. The Minister also advised farmers to take up organic farming . Two-wheelers were presented to krishi bhavans in the jurisdiction of Kunnummel block panchayat at the function .

The keys of the vehicles were received from the Minister by agriculture officer of Naripetta K. N. Ibrahim. Kuttiadi grama panchayat president K. K. Nafeesa presided over the function. District panchayat member Kamala R. Panikker felicitated those who had completed 100 workdays under Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Programme. Horticulture Mission Director K. Pratapan also spoke.
