The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation will send a delegation to the government to demand that the traditional fishing labourers and local people in CRZ2 and CRZ3 be allowed to build houses.
Mayor A.K. Premajam said in the Corporation council meeting held on Thursday that a meeting of the people in the coastal regions would be convened to study their problems and a report would be prepared before sending the delegation.
The issue was raised V.K. Mohandas. He said that people in 14 wards from Elathur to Beypore in the coastal region were not allowed to build houses due to the CRZ regulations. They were not even entitled to benefits from the government, including rations, he said, and demanded special concessions for them. Councillors T. Rajani, K.P. Abdulla Koya, K. Muhammedali, Ponnath Devarajan, M.T. Padma, and Deputy Mayor P.T. Abdul Latheef spoke on the issue and supported the motion. The council later passed the resolution unanimously.
Councillor K. Muhammadali presented a motion demanding an international football stadium in Kozhikode named after Olympian Rahman. C.P. Musafar Ahmed said the State government had set aside funds in the previous Budget for the purpose.
V. Sudheer presented a motion demanding that immediate steps be taken to repair the side walls of the Connolly canal between Karapparamba and Mudappattupalam. Vidya Balakrishnan in a motion demanded that repairs be undertaken on the roads that have been dug for laying drinking water pipelines.
