Clean Carnival 2017, organised by Green Care Mission, in association with Kozhikode district panchayat, District Suchitwa Mission and Kozhikode Corporation Kudumbasree CDS, will be opened by district panchayat president Babu Parasseri at Mananchira Square at 3.30 p.m. on Monday.

Clean Carnival is a multidimensional programme with the theme ‘Let’s celebrate a healthy life without waste’, supporting the State government’s Haritha Keralam programme.

More than 350 waste management workers under Kozhikode Corporation Kudumbasree CDS will take part in a rally to Kozhikode beach, accompanied by Team Malabar Riders on their bicycles.

They will be honoured by Mayor Thottathil Reveendran at a function to be held on the beach.

Street Melody, an orchestra of street singers, will perform on the beach at 4.30 p.m. There will be an exhibition of photographs by Ajeeb Komachi.

Thelima Wagon

A salient feature of the Clean Carnival is the Thelima Wagon, which will travel across the district from October 2 to November 1 (from Gandhi Jayanthi to Keralapiravi), spreading awareness about sustainable methods of waste management.

The wagon will have models of the IRCTC portable biogas plant, bucket compost, bin compost, biodigester ports and barrel composting. The public will have an opportunity to witness first hand the working of these systems and order them if needed.

The wagon will be flagged off by District Suchitwa Mission coordinator C. Kabani at Mananchira Square. It will travel through all block panchayats, municipalities and grama panchayats in the district during the 30 days.
