City to host Nurses Pallicon

Collector to open State conference of palliative care nurses

Over 500 palliative care nurses from all over the State will take part in Nurses Pallicon 2017, the second State conference of palliative care nurses, to be held at CMI Public School, Devagiri, on May 13 and 14.

The conference is being organised by the Institute of Palliative Medicine, Kozhikode, as a Continuing Medical Education programme for the nurses.

Chairperson of the scientific committee of the institute Lulu Mathews told reporters here on Thursday that the theme for the conference is ‘Care, Caress, Console and Convince’ . There will be sessions on various topics by experienced nurses.

The sessions on ‘Lymphedema management’ and ‘Colostomy Care’ are some of the notable ones. A debate competition on the topic of ‘Misuse of palliative care’ will be held at 2 p.m. on May 14.

District Collector U.V. Jose will open the conference at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Director of the Institute of Palliative Medicine Suresh Kumar will preside over the function. Palliative care specialist M.R. Rajagopal will be the guest of honour. Principal of Government Medical College, Kozhikode, V.P. Sasidharan will inaugurate the Palliative Care Nurses Educational Programme.
