Childline workers attacked in Kozhikode

January 05, 2014 12:42 pm | Updated May 13, 2016 07:18 am IST - Kozhikode:

Childline’s Kozhikode centre coordinator was beaten up by a group of unidentified men when he went to check a suspected child abuse case on the Vellayil beach premises on Friday. He has been admitted to the General Hospital here.

P.P. Sulaiman was attacked as he went to collect details of the suspected family from their neighbour. P. Praveen, Childline member, too was assaulted.

M.P. Mohamed Ali, the city coordinator of Childline, said one of the neighbours, reportedly a close friend of the accused family, had trapped them by inviting them to the flat on the beach. “Promising them to share information, he locked the door from outside and called the attackers,” Mr. Ali said. The Vellayil police have started an inquiry based on a complaint filed by the workers. Mr. Sulaiman and Mr. Praveen said the visit was made after they received a call from Marad on the Childline helpline requesting support to save a 10-year old girl from the torture of her alcoholic father. “As per the details given by the informer, the child has been suffering torture at the hands of her alcoholic father,” they said.
