Charge sheet submitted in Shibin murder case

The special police team probing the murder of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activist Shibin Bhaskaran at Thooneri in Nadapuram has submitted the charge sheet before the Nadapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Court within the stipulated time.

The Kuttiyadi Circle Inspector Dinesh Korath, who submitted the charge sheet, said that the investigators had been able to arrest the prime accused including Theyyambadi Ismayil, his brother, Muneer and Kaliyparambathu Aslam and gather evidence against them. This had been done within 84 days after the incident.

Nineteen-year-old Shibin was murdered by an armed gang allegedly owing allegiance to the Indian Union Muslim League at Vellur at Thooneri at around 10 p.m. on January 22. Six others were also injured in the attack.

Of the 17 accused in the case, the charge sheet has been submitted against 15 of them.

One of them is a juvenile. His case would be committed to the Juvenile Justice Board.

Two accused, K. Samad and K. Jasim, are absconding. One of them reportedly escaped to a Gulf county. Eight prime accused are still remanded in judicial custody. Six were charged for harbouring the prime accused, Mr. Korath said.

Ismayil, Muneer and Aslam were arrested from a lodge at Kollegal in Karnataka. The other accused were Kalamullathil Suhaib, Maniyentevide Aziz, Varangilthazha Kunyil Siddique, Madathil Suhaib and Edadi Fazal, Mottamal Nasar and Ramathu Yoonus.

The accused were charged with sections 302 ( murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) , 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 143 (unlawful assembly), 144 (joining unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapons), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons), 149 (every member of the unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in procreation of common object), 201(causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offender) and 212 (harbouring offender) of the Indian Penal Code.
