Chandy promises timely completion of road work

February 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - Kozhikode:

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said the construction of the Pooladikkunnu-Vengalam stretch of the Kozhikode bypass road will be completed by December 2015.

Mr. Chandy came up with the assurance after a visit to the spot on Friday along with Minister for Panchayats and Social Justice M.K. Muneer and A.K. Saseendran, MLA.

Soil shortage

He also directed District Collector N. Prasanth to look into the complaint made by the Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society engineers that they were facing shortage of soil for the remaining filling work of the road. They had also pointed out that the shortage of soil was the only remaining hindrance in the timely completion of the project. Referring to the procedures involved in the widening of Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu road, Mr. Chandy said the State government was now compelled to invest a huge amount for acquiring land for the project rather than for the development of roads.

Statewide situation

“This is the Statewide situation now,” he said.

During the site visit, the Chief Minister also responded positively to a memorandum submitted by the natives of Pulikkool Kadavu demanding sufficient number of approach roads to the National Highway.

Petition by residents

The complainants alleged that several residents in the area, who handed over land their land for the project, did not have direct access to the road. The Chief Minister instantly contacted the National Transportation Planning and Research Centre authorities to immediately process the request and ensure proper access of the residents of the locality to the highway.

District Collector N. Prasanth and Public Works Department (NH Division) officials were also present during the visit of the Chief Minister to the location.
