Centre’s U-turn on CBI probe mysterious: RMP

July 23, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - Kozhikode:

The Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) State committee has termed the Centre’s decision not to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the conspiracy behind the killing of T.P. Chandrasekharan as “mysterious.”

RMP leaders K.K. Rema, N. Venu and K.S. Hariharan said here on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a Lok Sabha election rally two years ago, had promised that if the BJP was voted to power the party would order a CBI probe. Now the BJP-led government had made a volte-face after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan met the Prime Minister in New Delhi.

They said the BJP leadership, which usually made a hue and cry about CPI(M) violence in the State, should clarify why the Centre pulled back from its earlier demand for a CBI probe into the large conspiracy. In any case, the RMP would explore all legal options to bring the big players behind Chandrasekharan’s murder before the court of law. The RMP leaders said the previous United Progressive Alliance government had refused to order a CBI probe even though the United Democratic Front (UDF) had written to the Centre twice.
