Cattle feed plant be ready by next month

March 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:52 am IST - Kozhikode:

The Kerala Feeds Limited will open its hi-tech cattle feed production plant at Thiruvangoor in Koyilandy next month.

The plant, nearing completion at an area of 10 acres land, will have the capacity to produce 300 tonnes of cattle feed a day.

The project sanctioned by the State government in 2011 is expected to cater to a large number of small-scale and large-scale dairy farmers in the Malabar region.

Entrepreneurs in goat farming, too, will be the direct beneficiaries of the project.

Though the factory will not deal with direct retails, products will hit the market with the already operational chain of various sub-dealers in Kerala.

According to officials, the factory, constructed at a cost of Rs.57.30 crore, will have all the world-class amenities including imported processing machines and computer facilities to ensure flawless management.

Power supply

Modern rainwater harvesting systems and uninterrupted power supply will be the main advantage of this venture to ensure continuous functioning throughout the year.

It was on September 17, 2011, that the foundation stone for the multi-crore project was laid by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy after clearing several technical hurdles at the project site, which was under the possession of the Coconut Development Corporation.

Proposal

A proposal submitted by Koyilandy MLA K. Dasan also helped the project fall on track. The construction work is being undertaken under the headship of the Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society in 2012.
