Cases registered against 10 LDF workers

30 injured in attack on UDF rally

March 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - Kozhikode:

The Rural police have registered cases against 10 Left Democratic Front (LDF) workers under section 308 (attempt to culpable homicide) on the charge of attacking United Democratic Front (UDF) workers taking out a protest rally in Perambra town on Sunday.

Senior police officers said the cases were registered following written complaints filed by UDF workers who sustained injuries in the incident. Around 30 UDF workers suffered injuries in the attack. They were protesting against K. Kunhammad, MLA, who reportedly vandalised the Speaker’s dais during the budget presentation on Friday.

Three UDF workers suffered serious injures and were admitted to the Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode. They were reportedly targeted by the gang when they criticised the MLA for his alleged actions in the Assembly. The police officers said the complaints would be viewed seriously. Efforts were on to arrest all the accused. Other charges would be added to the existing ones if need be, they added. On Monday, the UDF observed a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the Perambra Assembly constituency in protest against the attack.
