Candidate ‘roughed up’ in Kozhikode

Independent candidate in the Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency and noted cine and TV comedy artist Trichur Nazeer was allegedly manhandled by a group of people at Mathottam here on Thursday night while he was engaged in election campaigning.

Mr.Nazeer was admitted to the Government Medical College, Kozhikode, on Friday night after he collapsed amidst campaigning. He had received a severe blow to the head.

Mr. Nazeer filed a complaint at the Beypore Police station that three people, allegedly CPI(M) activists, had attacked him on Thursday at around 8.30 p.m. near Mathottam fish market asking him not to speak anything against their party. Mr.Nazeer went on campaigning on Friday, as he did not feel any problem, but collapsed by around 10 p.m.

The police said Mr. Nazeer had not requested for police protection.

Mr.Nazeer has gained entry in the Guinness book of World Records for performing mimicry continuously for 40 hours and Harmonica for 101 hours.
