Call to form secular collective

June 13, 2013 03:22 pm | Updated 03:22 pm IST - KOZHIKODE:

The Muslim Youth League (MYL) has urged the Left parties to make clear their stand on the need to form a secular collective to thwart the attempts being made by fascist forces to capture power at the Centre.

Joint effort

Speakers at a recent meeting of the State secretariat of the MYL observed that a joint effort by secular forces under the leadership of the Congress had become imperative in the context of the Bharatiya Janata Party projecting Narendra Modi as its principal leader and next Prime Minister in case it won the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Congress role

“It is necessary than ever before for all secular forces to work jointly to prevent fascist forces from coming to power. It will be foolish to ignore the attempts being made to project Narendra Modi as next Prime Minister,” MYL president P.M. Sadiq Ali said after the meeting.

The MYL wanted the Congress to take the lead to form a joint front of secular forces to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party in the next Lok Sabha polls.
