A performance-based rank list of the 191 arts and science colleges affiliated to the University of Calicut will be published next year, Vice-Chancellor M. Abdul Salam has said.
A press release from the university here said Dr. Salam made the announcement at a meeting of the principals of the colleges organised by the College Development Council at the University Seminar Complex at Tenhipalam on Monday.
The Vice-Chancellor said there existed a wide range of differences in the performance and general standards of colleges.
“For example, the results in the same disciplines varied from 19 per cent to 77 per cent,” he said.
The university was not revealing the names of the poorly performing college for the time being as it wanted to give them time to improve their standing.
Urging the affiliated colleges to introduce immediate and effective measures to better their academic standards, Dr. Salam said the rank list was planned to be published based on the result produced by the respective colleges in different disciplines.
Announcing that the university had decided to institute awards for the best e-campus and the best eco-friendly campus, he said arrangements were on to provide low-cost connectivity to students on various campuses, in collaboration with suitable agencies.
“A healthy competition should be developed among different colleges in matters of improving standards,” he said.
He urged the college authorities to enforce strict measures to curb ragging, besides directing them to furnish the internal marks of students to the university without fail.
He asked the Principals to introduce a digital filing system in the colleges as the university had done with the help of KELTRON.
