The fifth edition of the Calicut Mini Marathon, one of the major annual events organised by the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM-K), will be held in the city on Sunday.

‘Gift a life - Organ Donation’ is the theme this year, which according to IIM-K sources, has been selected keeping in mind the dismal organ transplantation scenario in the country. “Through the campaign we aim to promote organ donation by mitigating apprehensions and dispelling negative notions about it,” said a press release issued by the IIM-K.

The event has been organised in association with the Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (KNOS), a government body under the State Health Department, and the MOHAN Foundation. Minister for Social Justice M.K. Muneer would flag off the race at 6.30 a.m. on the beach premises.

Kozhikode MP M.K. Raghavan and artist Eby N. Joseph from Kottayam, who had overcome cancer and had been holding exhibitions for treatment of cancer patients, would be the guests of honour.

IIM-K Director Debashis Chatterjee would be present. KNOS members would guide the event.

The marathon would have two race categories.
