Buried container explodes at Cheruvothu

None injured; preliminary investigations says container had big quantity of explosive chemicals

A plastic container which was buried with highly explosive chemicals exploded at Cheruvothu near Valayam on Saturday morning. No one suffered injuries in the explosion.

As per the preliminary investigation of the Bomb Squad, the container was carrying big quantity of explosive chemicals which could be used to make at least 15 steel bombs.

Local residents heard the explosion around 6 a.m.. In the inquiry conducted by the police, the particles of the plastic container and explosive substances were recovered from the spot. A deep hole had been formed in the ground following the explosion.

Police officials said the land where the container was kept belonged to a resident named V.K. Abdulla.

However, police doubted whether he had any role in the incident.

They also combed the area with the help of the bomb squad.
