Building rules to be relaxed

Relaxation of building rules will be allowed for those releasing land for the widening of the Chakkumkadavu-Payyanakkal road in the city.

This was decided at a meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram recently to discuss the issues related to the development of the road. The meeting was attended by Minister for Panchayats M.K. Muneer, Minister for Public Works V.K. Ebrahim Kunju, and Minister for Urban Development Manjalamkuzhy Ali, it was announced here on Thursday.

Those releasing land for the development of the road would be issued certificates by the Public Works Department indicating the area of the land released. Building rules would be relaxed to enable the land-owners to construct houses on the land that remained in their possession. A meeting of the Chief Engineer (Roads) and the Chief Town Planner would be convened soon by Mr. Ali to formalise the decision to grant relaxation of building rules.

As much as 1.695 acres will have to be made available for the development of the road. At Rs.5 lakh a cent, the land cost will work out to Rs.8.47 crore.

Another Rs.1.25 crore will be needed for the construction of a wall and gate. Administrative sanction has been given for the development of the road at a cost of Rs.3.50 crore. An agreement has also been signed with a contractor after issuing the tender for the construction work.
