The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reaching out to the minorities in Kozhikode district as part of its ongoing Vikas Yathra undertaken by party State president Kummanam Rajasekharan.
A meeting with prominent leaders from Muslim and Christian communities is part of the two-day programme which will begin on Saturday.
T.P. Jayachandran, BJP district president, told the media here on Thursday that the minority communities had some misunderstanding about the party's policies.
Interactive session
“To bridge the gap, we are planning an interactive session titled ‘Nyoonapaksha Souhruda Sadassu’ (Minority Friendly Assembly) at Thamarassery on Saturday. We have extended invitation to various factions and congregations among Muslims and Christians, respectively, and the response has been positive,” he said. A few leaders, who expressed their inability to attend the programme, had offered to send their representatives.
Mr. Jayachandran said the yathra would also have a session with members of the Scheduled Castes, who recently joined the party, at the Kunnummal Colony in Chelannur on Sunday. According to the schedule of the yathra, the BJP State chief would interact with the district leaders, and social media and IT wings of the party here.
A meeting with prominent citizens in the city too has been planned on Sunday.
