Beypore, one of the two villages within the city limits where land has been identified for the Zero Landless Scheme, will miss out the first phase of land distribution under the welfare project.
Though survey has been completed and 112 plots have been identified at Naduvattom in Beypore, objections from the public about the land has forced the Revenue Department to postpone the distribution of plots in the first phase in November.
The plots have been identified from Puramboke land near the Gotheeswaram temple, the department says.
K. Balan, District Officer, Zero Landless Project, and Deputy Tahsildar, said that after the survey, the local people had come up with claims that some of the land identified for the Mission Mode Project was under the possession of the temple. Another section said the land was used as a playground.
The land, Mr. Balan said, was also the one from which people were shifted from after the tsunami.
The other village identified within the city limits is Nellikode.
In Kozhikode taluk as a whole, survey for the project in the Kakoor grama panchayat limits has yielded the most number of plots at 284, followed by Kuruvattur with 149 plots and then Beypore. Other regions within the rural areas of the taluk include Thamarassery with 12 plots, Thalakalathur with 74 plots, Kakkad with 108 plots, Chathamangalam with 16 plots, Neeleshwaram with 32 plots, Kumaranellur with 75, Mavoor with 23, Puthur with one, Nanamanda with 12, Mukkam with 94 and Kudiyathur with 95.
Each plot measures three cents. Of the total 7,184 applications received in the first phase, the government could spare only 1,036 plots after surveying 15 villages across Kozhikode taluk. Surveys in Vadakara and Koyilandy taluks of the district yielded 98 and 459 plots, respectively.
