Three headload workers, suspects in an assault on four policemen at the Kozhikode mofussil bus stand, were remanded in judicial custody on Friday. Asif Mohammed Koya, 38, Subair Ummer, 32, and A.P. Koyamon, 40, were charged for “voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty”.

The police said the suspects had manhandled a four-member squad of the Kasaba police station when they reached the mofussil bus stand on Thursday night to investigate a case.

Meanwhile, the Headload and General Workers’ Union owing allegiance to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions alleged that the police had assaulted the workers at the bus stand. Union leaders said no policeman was booked for the assault.

Nearly 300 workers from various unions struck work at the bus stand on Friday in protest against the incident.
