The District School Athletic Meet, which was scheduled to be held at the Calicut University stadium on Tuesday, has been postponed following a protest demonstration by the students of Physical Education programmes.

The students staged a sit-in on the tracks as the athletic meet was about to begin, in protest against the appointment of language teachers in Physical Education posts.

The students said that they would not permit the meet to be held until the government corrected its policy of appointing language teachers for Physical Education classes as part of protecting the excess posts of teachers. The new date of the meet will be announced later.
