A charged-up audience was the most memorable part of the Kozhikode edition of The Hindu Young World Quiz held at CMI Public School on Saturday.

Unlike the previous editions, the audience was much younger this year as the participants were from standards VI to VIII. The tricky and informative questions of quizmaster V.V. Ramanan had the little boys and girls jumping up from their seats with raised hands for a chance to answer them. Correct answers were duly rewarded with packets of biscuits or cashews.

Some questions in the preliminary round tended to check out the knowledge of the participants in multiple faculties, like the one to find out the ‘Nakshatra’ with a name that starts with the 22nd alphabet.

Be it geography, maths, chemistry, biology, sports or space science, there was always someone in the audience who knew the answer. The audience was on the edge of their seats just minutes after the final round started. It was a close contest between the first two teams for a long time. It was a last-minute answer that tilted the contest in favour of Bhavans, Kakkad.

The third-prize winning team from Bhavans, Perunthuruthi, had a clear lead halfway through the competition.

However, some of their attempts to gain extra points through buzzer backfired and led to some negative marks. All the teams guessed the picture of the international sportswoman of India behind the grid, though a couple of them identified Saina Nehwal only towards the end of the competition. However, it was not surprising that all of them were familiar with Mark Zuckerberg.
