: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah said here on Thursday that the BJP’s presence in the fray this time offered the people of Kerala the option to shift to positive voting, from decades of negative voting to only remove a corrupt government of either the United Democratic Front (UDF) or the Left Democratic Front (LDF).
Addressing an election meeting, Mr. Shah pointed out that in the absence of an alternative, the people of Kerala had been compelled to make a choice between these two fronts. “This time, you have the option of voting in, instead of voting out,” he said, projecting the BJP as the alternative and a fit candidate for Kerala’s positive vote.
Going beyond the possibility of the BJP only making or marring the chances of the two established fronts, Mr. Shah declared that a positive vote surge would help his party even win power.
In an indication that much was at stake for his party in Kerala, Mr. Shah said “The focus is on Kerala, and not on Tamil Nadu, West Bengal or Assam”.
The governments of both the fronts had taken turns to destroy the culture of the State, block development and resort to appeasement politics. Despite having the highest number of literate youth, successive governments had failed to provide enough jobs and tap their potential for the State’s growth. The BJP would look at providing enough employment to the youth and also to nurses from Kerala who were now forced to seek jobs in West Asia and elsewhere.
