The closed-down Akshaya centres will be reopened in the district in a phased manner as part of strengthening the government’s online service delivery to the citizens.

Within a couple of months, 17 such units, which were earlier hit by “poor returns” or suspended by the Akshaya officers for disciplinary reasons, will resume its functioning.

In the first phase, eight of such units will become operational in the selected grama panchayats.

Most of the entrepreneurs have been shortlisted for running the units through an online application procedure. Some more will be selected shortly.

With the opening of these units, the total number of Akshaya centres in the district will reach 170. “Our actual mission is to ensure at least one Akshaya centre for 2,000 people in their locality,” says M. Firoz, District Coordinator of Akshaya. According to him, the performance of Kozhikode in e-service delivery is one of the best in Kerala.

He also adds that the highest number of certificate distribution through online application is now from Kozhikode district as per the latest IT Mission statistics.

Akshaya will also strengthen its checking mechanism on all its branches across the district to ensure total transparency in the system and accept complaints from the public to address their grievances. Licences of corrupt or irregular service providers will be suspended after conducting an internal enquiry.

According to Akshaya project officials, they have already received complaints against the faulty running of five Akshaya units in the district. Show cause notices have been issued to all these five entrepreneurs. In most of the complaints, delay in service due to network problems is the main issue.
