Murukesh Kakkur, who won the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award for the best actor in 2012, died here on Wednesday. He was 47.
Murukesh, one of the more talented actors in the present-day Malayalam theatre, had also acted in lesser roles in films as well as television serials. His last film was Saigal Padukayanu , directed by Sibi Malayil.
It was for his outstanding performance in three different roles in Kuriyedath Thathri that he won the coveted State Award. He had played Raman Namboodiri, husband of Thathri, the elderly Smarthan and a transgender. That play was directed by Manoj Narayanan.
“Murukesh was an exceptionally talented actor, who was at home both in realistic kind of acting as well as the more stylised one,” Manoj told The Hindu . “He had also acted in the titular role in my recent play, Kunchan Nambiar .”
