Be it the latest and swanky sanitary wears, economical and eco-friendly alternatives to river sand or innovative and tailor-made varieties of doors and windows made of Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride (UPVC), there was a whole range of products and building materials on display at the Building Expo organised by the Licensed Engineers and Supervisors Federation (LENSFED) at the Marine Grounds in the city.

The three-day event that began on Saturday was attracting a large number of visitors including builders and common man, eager to know about the latest inventions and technologies available in the building sector.

“Besides builders, the show will be particularly useful for those who are planning to build a house or those have already started constructing one since it would give them a fair idea of what is ‘the latest’ in the building sector,” said the organisers.

In more than 100 stalls they displayed technologies, raw materials and finished products in different categories such as flooring, plastering, roofing and furnishing among other things.

There were products such as the sand-like substance called Slag, which is a by-product after a desired metal has been separated from its ore, and “can be used for almost all purposes in construction” as an economical alternative to river sand.

Many visitors were also drawn to the exhibit of a galvanised variety of pipe, which can be used in place of wood to construct roofing structures.

A cross-section of manufacturers, dealers, builders, developers and financial institutions focusing on different segments such as roofing, lighting, plumping, furnishing and landscaping, put on display their products and materials at the expo, which also had a series of technical seminars on the sidelines discussing the latest trends and movements in the building sector.

The event, with ‘Innovation only After Engineering’ as its basic theme, also comprised interaction with senior engineers and experts in the construction field besides honouring of veterans in the field and daily entertainment programmes.
