Schoolteacher K.K. Jayachandran, who reached here on Friday after being released from a Maldivian jail on Thursday evening, was given an emotional welcome by his family members, friends, and relatives on the Press Club premises.
He arrived by car from Bangalore at around 6 p.m. to be received by an eagerly waiting crowd comprising his wife Jyothi Jayachandran and daughter J.J. Karthika along with a large number of media persons and public representatives.
He was soon ushered in to the Press Club hall where he narrated the depressing story of being detained in different jails in the Maldives for doing almost “nothing wrong”.
EmotionalHe was not even informed of the death of one of his brothers back home during these days. “I am extremely happy to have come home; at the same time I am broken too,” said an emotional Jayachandran referring to the news of his brother, which he got only this morning.
Expressing unbounded gratitude towards everyone who worked for his release, Mr. Jayachandran said: “That I am here is proof enough for the fact there are still several good souls left on earth even amidst reasons for despair.”
AgonySeveral months of “agonising experience” in jail had left the 51-year-old teacher a tired man. “It will take time for me to recover from those distressing memories in jail,” he said.
Mr. Jayachandran, who hailed the support and help of all his friends, relatives and well-wishers, also maintained that it was also a time for him to realise how much he was loved by people back home.
The teacher, who specially praised the efforts of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in materialising his release, also expressed his gratitude towards everyone who supported his cause on social networking sites.
Mr. Jayachandran will meet Mr. Chandy at the Guest House here on Saturday morning.
