Not shy of experimentation:An eastern rock performance under way at the Swararagam competition held as part of the cultural festival of the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, on Friday.

Ragam, the annual inter-collegiate cultural festival of the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, (NIT-C), entered the second day on Friday. A variety of programmes, including workshops, exhibitions, dance, music, and so on, are held on the institute campus at Chathamangalam as part of Ragam.

Swararaga , an eastern rock contest, was the first among the competitions held on Friday. Classical music talents from various south Indian campuses performed at the event.

Film fete

Actor Sreejith Ravi inaugurated Take One, a short film competition, on the day. Film-maker Sajin Babu was present. A self-defence workshop for girls and an archery workshop for amateurs were also held. Tango and Mambo, a dance workshop, attracted several enthusiastic boys and girls from different campuses.

Literary events such as Debate, DumbC and Spelling Bee were also held on the day. Events like Classical Dance and Movie Spoof witnessed some excellent performances. Among the stalls that focused on student welfare was Ex-gratia, a pro-life stall aimed at spreading awareness of different social issues. Nirmala Hospital had set up a stall for free medical check-up.

Govind Menon, violinist and vocalist of music band Thaikudam Bridge, rendered his popular songs. Swiss folk metal band Eluveitie performed at night.

A live show by Bollywood fame Ankit Tiwari and a dance competition Choreo Nite will be the highlights of Ragam on Saturday.
