The Indian Coast Guard conducted a motorcycle rally from Beypore to Chombal in the district on Wednesday to sensitise the coastal community to the need for improved vigil.
A.R. Chauhan, Commander of the Coast Guard station at Beypore, flagged off the rally from the Coast Guard ground at Ashokapuram in the city around 9 a.m.
The rally, comprising 22 personnel from the Coastal Guard, Kerala Police, and Coastal Police on 11 motorcycles covered the entire coastline in the district. Kozhikode has a coastline of 71 km.
The participants interacted with residents of coastal villages in the district. The rally concluded at Puthiyappa harbour in the evening.
300 km covered
The rally by the Coast Guard District Headquarters (Kerala and Mahe) had set off from Kochi on Monday. It covered 300 km till Chombal in Kozhikode.
The objective of the rally was to interact with coastal residents and sensitize them to the need for coastal security. The other priorities were generating awareness on maritime environment, importance of maintaining hygiene in coastal areas, disaster management, and marine environment.
