A huge pat for top performers in SSLC exam in Kozhikode

Students who scored A-plus grade for all subjects and the schools that produced outstanding results in the recent SSLC examination were felicitated by the District Panchayat at a special function held at New Nalanda auditorium, here, on Saturday.

The programme, inaugurated by A. Pradeepkumar, MLA, drew the participation of 1,874 students, who scored ‘A’ Plus grades in all subjects in the examination. Representatives of 64 schools that showcased cent per cent victory in the examination and other 29 schools that achieved 99 per cent result too were felicitated on the occasion.

‘Vijayotsavam’

The function, organised by the panchayat as part of its ‘Vijayotsavam’ learning improvement project, also turned out to be an occasion for explaining how Kozhikode made a difference in producing an “outstanding” result even as it came third at the State-level.

A comparison report presented by education officers on the occasion said the district achieved 97.14 pass percentage by presenting 45,255 students in the examination. Of the total candidates, 43, 956 students secured eligibility for higher studies in which 1,490 students secured A plus grade for all subjects, she said.

As per the report, Kottayam district, which secured second place with a pass percentage of 97.47, presented only 23,318 students in the examination. Similarly, Kannur district that claimed first with 98.27 per cent victory presented 35, 325 students, the report explained.

Also, the report stressed on how the district made a difference in scoring maximum number of A Plus grades by presenting maximum number of students in the examination. “Malappuram district secured 2,056 A Plus grades by presenting 77, 238 students in the examination. Kozhikode achieved 1,874 A Plus grades by presenting 45,255 students,” it explained.

District panchayat president Kanathil Jameela, who presided over the function, said the Vijayotsavam scheme evoked a very warm response from students and their parents in the district. “Our pass percentage witnessed a covetable improvement from 95.14 to 97.14 during the 2013-14 academic year,” she said.
