Complaints regarding the delimitation of various wards in local bodies were considered at a sitting by the Delimitation Commission at the Tagore Centenary Hall here on Saturday.

Officials said the complaints from 27 local bodies, including city Corporation and municipalities, were considered at the one-day sitting.

K. Sasidharan Nair, chairman, Delimitation Commission, led the sitting. Other commission officials, including A.P.M. Mohammed Haneesh, K.R. Jyothilal, E.N. Babu, Radhakrishna Kurup, and Eapen Varghese, were present. Altogether, 358 complaints related to the alleged irregularities in the delimitation of various wards within the Corporation, panchayats, and municipalities were considered at the sitting. After the scrutiny, directions were issued to re-examine the delimitation procedures in five local bodies in the district.

Officials said majority of the complaints were from various political parties having superiority in various local bodies. Though minor changes were suggested in the delimitation draft, there would not be many changes as desired and demanded by the political parties in majority of the wards, they said.

The hearing was held only for those who were issued special notice. They were also allotted time to meet the commission as it had to deal with 358 complaints at the one-day sitting.
