The Kerala Pravasi League, a forum of expatriates supporting the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), will celebrate the 50 anniversary of the Indo-Arab relationship this year by observing 2015 as the Indo-Arab amity year.
A series of programmes throughout the year had been planned to mark the occasion, said S.V. Abdulla, senior vice president of the organisation.
The celebrations, which will start this month, will comprise cultural exchange programmes, history exhibitions, launching of research projects, study tours, visual presentations depicting the Indo-Arab cultural relationships and interactions during the last five decades besides a variety of charitable initiatives to help and support struggling families of expatriates.
“The details of the programmes will be announced soon,” said Mr. Abdulla.
Economy of the StateAddressing a get-together of selected expatriates and members of the Pravasi League organised to chalk out the details of the celebrations at the K.P. Keshava Menon Hall here on Sunday, IUML State treasurer P.K.K. Bava said it was with the beginning of the migration of Keralites to the Gulf countries in search of employment that the economy of the State underwent a drastic change.
“But the Pravasis are yet to be given due credit for that,” he said.
Observing that the foundation of the State’s economic development in the way it is seen today was largely laid by the expatriates through their hard works, Mr. Bava said it was sad that the State authorities were yet to realise that fact.
The golden jubilee celebration of the Indo-Arab relationship this year would be an occasion to bring the attention of the authorities to that important fact in a rewarding manner, he said.
The forum district president K.P. Imbichi Muhammed Haji presided over the function. IUML leaders M.C. Mayin Haji, M.A. Razak, T.P.M. Sahir and Hameed Vanimel among others spoke.
