The district administration is busy fine-tuning the election machinery for the upcoming elections to Lok Sabha.
District Collector C.A. Latha, who is also the District Election Officer, said on Monday there would be 1,883 polling stations in the 13 Assembly segments in Kozhikode district.
These 13 Assembly segments form part of Kozhikode, Vadakara, and Wayanad Lok Sabha seats.
While seven of these fall in the Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency, five others come under the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency.
Taliparamba Taliparamba and Thalassey segments, which are in Kannur district, are also part of Vadakara seat while Tiruvambadi in Kozhikode revenue district is under Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency.
A meeting of assistant returning officers in-charge of Assembly segments in Kozhikode and Malappuram district has been convened at 10.30 am at the conference hall of Kozhikode collectorate on Wednesday.
Senior officials of Chief Electoral Officer will attend the meeting.
CEO’s directions The arrangements for the poll are being made in line with directions given by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nalini Netto at a meeting of District Collector held on February 28 in Thiruvanathapuram.
District Collectors have been told to ensure that basic necessities like drinking water, proper lighting, safety and ramp facilities for physically challenged voters are available at the poll booths.
Basic facilities Video films of polling booths are being shot to assess availability of basic facilities there.
Steps will also be taken to identify polling booths which are vulnerable to law and order problems.
