Only when one upholds democracy, secularism and diversity of the country does a person become an Indian, said Minister for Social Justice and Panchayats M.K.Muneer.
He was speaking after receiving the guard of honour at Vikram Maidan in Kozhikode on Monday on the occasion of Republic Day. Pointing out that Kerala, along with the whole country is in the path of development, Dr.Muneer said that 1,011 panchayats in the State will get broadband connectivity by March 2015. The Health, Education, Service and industries sectors in the State will thus become transparent and efficient.
Women enterprises will start at the panchayat-level from February. The Social Security Mission is providing financial aid to around 30,000 orphans.
The Minister said that the government would make arrangements for the expatriates to cast e-votes by the next local body polls. The beautification of Kozhikode beach and renovation of S.M. Street will be completed this year, he added.
Mayor A.K. Premajam, MLAs, A.K.Saseendran, Purushan Kadalundi, District Collector C.A.Latha, Deputy Mayor P.T. Abdul Latheef, City Police chief A.V.George, Sub Collector Himanshukumar Rai and Divisional Forest Officer Amandeep Kaur besides freedom fighters, children and general public had gathered to watch the Republic Day parade.
Cultural programmes followed the parade.
