Yet another rape in the heart of Kolkata

September 02, 2014 10:07 am | Updated 10:07 am IST - Kolkata:

A 30-year-old woman, working as a help in a roadside eatery, has alleged that she was raped on Sunday evening. According to the police, the woman was found unconscious at D L Khan and Belvedre Road crossing in south Kolkata and admitted to a State-run hospital.

She alleged that the owner of a roadside eatery, Sanjib Das, forced her to consume alcohol and raped her. The woman said the accused offered her money, but she refused to take it.

The accused has been arrested. That the incident occurred in the heart of city in a thickly populated area has raised concern about the safety of women. Last month, a 27-year-old woman was allegedly raped in the south-western fringes of the city in a moving car.
