Women not getting adequate importance in party organisation: CPI (M)

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) West Bengal leadership had stressed the need to provide more importance to women in the party’s organisation. The issue was brought up in the party’s ongoing West Bengal State Conference here on Wednesday.

“Despite being in the frontline of the party’s agitations, women are not getting proper importance in the party organisation,” said a press statement issued by the CPI (M).

“The induction of women in the party’s organisation is not at par with their increasing participation in our movements and protest demonstrations. In the Conference, there were discussions on how to bring them into the organisation,” senior CPI (M) leader Md. Salim told journalists.

When asked what steps are being taken by the party leadership in this regard, Mr. Salim said that it would be decided at the end of the State Conference. The conference will conclude on Friday.

Civic Polls

In the Conference, it was proposed that the party should go all out to win the upcoming civic polls in Bengal by mobilising people through mass movements. Asked whether the CPI (M) would be able to field candidates in all the seats in the upcoming civic elections, Mr. Salim said that it would be a “tough fight” in the polls.

“Those who unleashed the terror had lost their edge,” said Mr. Salim in an indirect reference to the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Elaborating on his statement, Mr. Salim also said that “people’s united resistance” had pushed back those who used terror tactics.

“Only the Left Front workers had presence all across Bengal,” claimed Mr. Salim. He was replying to a question whether CPI (M) would be able to bounce back in the civic elections in view of the weakening organisation.
