Woman’s tongue chopped off in Murshidabad

July 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - Kolkata:

A woman’s tongue was allegedly chopped off in Jalangi area of Murshidabad district in West Bengal. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon when she took her goats for grazing to a nearby field.

“The woman in her early 40s went to a garden near her house to collect jackfruit leaves to feed her goats and there two youths made obscene remarks to her. When she protested, they allegedly assaulted her and cut off her tongue with a sickle,” said a local rights activist.

However, Superintendent of Police of Murshidabad district C. Sudhakar Reddy denied that any such incident had taken place.

“The reports of a woman’s tongue being chopped off are false. If her tongue had been chopped off, how is she talking to the police?”
