: The Leader of Opposition in Tripura Legislative Assembly Sudip Roy Barman demanded a CBI probe into the Ponzi scam in Tripura and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s alleged support to these companies.

Mr Barman who held a press conference in Kolkata here on Monday also accused the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front Government of not doing anything to curb the spread of ponzi schemes in the State.

“We demand a CBI probe into the Ponzi scheme scams in Tripura. We also want CBI to probe why the Chief Minister provided support to the Ponzi scheme companies to flourish in the State,” Mr. Barman told journalists. He also refuted Mr. Sarkar’s claim that the Left Front government in Tripura was the first to order CBI probe into the Ponzi scheme scams. “It was the Assam Government that first sought CBI probe against 11 Ponzi scheme companies on May 6,2013,” said Mr. Barman.

Denying the allegations spokesperson of the Tripura CPI (M) Gautam Das said, “Mr. Barman’s comments are misleading.”

He also said that Mr. Sarkar had categorically stated that he never made any statements promoting any Ponzi scheme company.
