Trinamool MP makes ‘hearty appeal’

: Appealing before a city Court that he be allowed to record his statement before the magistrate under Section 161 of Cr.PC, suspended All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) MP Kumal Ghosh broke down before the Court here on Monday.

The Trinamool MP who is behind bars since November 2013 also lamented that while he will have to spend the Durga Puja in jail, those associated with the scam are going around inaugurating Durga Puja. Mr Ghosh, whose obvious reference was towards the political executive of AITC leadership, also expressed apprehension that there is a threat to his life.

Hearing his prayer, the Court directed the investigating officer of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to record Mr Ghosh’s statement under Section 161 of Cr.PC and submit a report to the Court in this regard. The Court however, refused his prayer for bail and directed him and another accused to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate probing the multi-crore Saradha scam summoned AITC MP Srinjoy Bose. According to sources, the ED sought clarification from the MP whether his bills at a private hospital were paid by those associated with the Saradha Group.

The ED authorities also summoned officials of a private health facility who failed to turn up.

Mr Bose denied reports that the Saradha Group had anything to do with his hospital bills and said that he has enough resources to pay hospital bills.

West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) president Rahul Sinha said that during the day that he has written a letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh demanding better security arrangements for Saradha group chairman and managing director Sudipta Sen and Mr Ghosh.
