The Trinamool Congress run Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has failed to utilise the resources of the city’s civic body for development of Kolkata, the Kolkata District Left Front said here on Monday while releasing its manifesto for the KMC polls.

“The ruling party controlled KMC board had used its resources not for developmental purposes but to cling to power. To buy their allegiance it provided money to clubs, but did not improve the sports infrastructure in the city,” stated the manifesto.

The Left Front alleged that financial irregularities worth Rs. 30 crore had taken place in the installation of trident lights by KMC board run by TMC.

The manifesto stated that KMC board in the past five years had been unable to resolve neither the drinking water problem in parts of the city nor the problems related to health infrastructure. It accused the KMC board of neglecting the schools ran by it and failing to add the names of many financially backward people in the Below Poverty Line list.

Refuting TMC’s claims of development of the minority community, Kolkata District Left Front claimed in its manifesto that the ruling party’s claims in this regard were hollow.

The convener of the Kolktata District Left Front Dilip Sen urged the voters to oust the “corrupt” Trinammol Congress (TMC) and prevent the “riot mongers” Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) from taking control of KMC.

Mr. Sen claimed that the TMC and BJP are supplementing each other and pointed out that TMC had been supporting the BJP led government at the Centre in passing key bills.

The city’s Left Front leadership refuted TMC’s claims of ushering in minority development in the city.

“Apart from failing to uplift the condition of minorities, the ruling party controlled KMC has done nothing in the education and the civic sector,” Mr Sen added.
