The Opposition parties in West Bengal were quick to seize the opportunity over the controversy sparked over giving ticket to contest coming Assembly elections to incarcerated Trinamool Congress leader Madan Mitra accused in Saradha scam.
After the remarks of party MP Saugata Roy that Mr. Mitra would contest from Kamarahati seat in North 24 Parganas what provided more ammunition to the Opposition is an event in the constituency on Sunday where the MLA’s son Subharup Mitra was seen distributing blankets.
The public appearance of Mr. Mandan Mitra’s younger son in his father’s constituency comes despite claims by the party that no decision on ticket distribution had been taken.
Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member and MP Md. Salim said that Mr. Roy’s announcement showed that Mr. Mitra and the TMC leadership were on the “same page”. State Congress leadership described the development as the TMC’s “sign of desperation”.
