The Calcutta High Court on Monday granted bail to Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former Director General of Police (DGP) Rajat Majumdar who was arrested for his alleged complicity in the multi-crore Saradha scam on September 9, 2014.

Mr. Majumdar’s counsel Milon Mukherjee said he was granted bail on condition of furnishing sureties of Rs. 1 lakh.

“He has been directed by the court not to leave Kolkata and North 24 Parganas district. He also has been asked to appear before the investigating agency once every week,” Mr. Mukherjee told journalists.

Mr. Majumdar, retired Director-General of the State’s armed police, was the first TMC leader to be arrested in the Saradha scam by the CBI.

The agency named him in its charge-sheet filed on November 17, 2014 and had arrested him on grounds of conspiracy, cheating and misappropriation of funds.

Former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Srinjoy Bose was granted bail by a city court on February 6, after spending 75 days behind bars. After being released Mr. Bose resigned from the party and also as an MP.
