Protests erupted in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Tuesday when Left Front and Congress legislators raised the issue of police assault on Left Front supporters during the ‘March to Nabanna’ protest on Monday.
Left Front MLA Tanmoy Bhattacharya demanded that an adjournment motion be allowed in the House. When the Speaker disallowed it, Left Front MLAs raised posters and black flags, and shouted anti-government slogans in the House. Along with Congress lawmakers, they descended into the well of the House shouting slogans against the government.
The Speaker adjourned the House for some time. After the House resumed, Left Front and Congress MLAs did not attend. A condemnation motion was passed against the Opposition MLAs. Speaker Biman Banerjee said no posters would be allowed in the House from Wednesday.
