Pleasant weather in Bengal after rain

Kolkata at 36.2 and Darjeeling at 17.3 degrees Celsius record the highest and lowest temperatures of the day

The weather of West Bengal remained pleasant on Tuesday with some parts having received good amount of rainfall since Monday evening.

Bankura in the western part of the State recorded the highest day temperature at 37.1 degrees Celsius, according to the Met department.

Kolkata recorded the day’s highest temperature at 36.2 degrees, followed by Asansol a 35.5 degrees and Sriniketan at 34.4 degrees Celsius.

The metropolis received heavy showers on Monday evening recording 56.2 mm of rainfall within a span of about two hours, leading to water logging and traffic snarls in some parts of the city. The temperature remained normal in the State capital through out the day. Though humidity caused some discomfort.

The hills in North Bengal also received good amount of rainfall since Monday and in Darjeeling the precipitation was recorded at 30.8 mm, the Met department said. Day and night temperature at the popular hill station stood at 17.3 degrees Celsius and 11.5 degrees Celsius.

Western Odisha continues to sizzle

Western Odisha continued to sizzle under heat wave on Tuesday though mercury dipped in most of the coastal areas.

Titlagarh turned out to be the hottest place in the state at 46.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Hirakud, also located in the western region, at 45.4 degrees Celsius and Bhawanipatna at 45 degrees Celsius, the meteorological centre here said.

The mercury stood at 44.5 degrees Celsius at Bolangir, 44 degrees Celsius at Sundargarh, 43.4 degrees Celsius at Jharsuguda and 43.1 degrees Celsius at Sonepur.

At least 11 places in the state recorded a high of above 40 degrees Celsius, it said.

As many places in the coastal belt experienced rains and thunderstorm on Monday evening, the mercury level dropped to 38.3 degrees Celsius in Bhubaneswar from 40.5 degrees Celsius recorded yesterday.

The maximum temperature in neighbouring Cuttack was 37 degrees Celsius, while it was 34.2 degrees Celsius in Balasore and 34 degrees Celsius in Puri.

Meanwhile, death toll due to sunstroke remained unchanged at 20, according to Special Relief Commissioner’s office. - PTI
