: A day after the CBI arrested former Director General of State police Rajat Majumdar who worked closely with the All India Trinamool Congress ( AITC), the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) and the Congress targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asking her to explain her party’s links to the scam tainted Saradha group.
While State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury described the AITC and Saradha group to be linked to each others like ‘cousins’, State BJP president Rahul Sinha demanded the resignation of Trinamool leaders whose names surfaced in the scam.
“The Chief Minister does not have the courage to say that she is ready to face Kunal Ghosh and Saradha CMD Sudipta Sen in presence of CBI officials. Like the term ‘king pin’ if there was a term ‘queen pin’ it should be used for her. She is the queen pin of Saradha scam,” Mr Chowdhury said.
Mr Sinha, on the other hand demanded that a white paper be issued by the State government in connection with the scam.
“The constitutional head of the State, the Chief Minister should issue a statement in connection with the developments centring the scam,” Mr Sinha added. He led a party delegation to Raj Bhavan during the day and met Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi on the issue.
The State BJP leader said that the party will hit the streets in protest against the scam after the by-polls .
Along with the political parties in Opposition, the members of Chit-fund Sufferers Unity Forum, a joint platform of agents and depositors of Saradha Group, will bring out a massive rally in the city on Thursday demanding a free and fair probe in the scam. Several civil rights activists are also likely to participate in the rally.
Meanwhile, suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh who has been behind bars since November 2013, few days ago alleged that Chief Minister is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the media units of Saradha scam.
The Trinamool Congress, however, alleged that the CBI is scripting a screen-play in connection with the ongoing probe.
AITC secretary general Partha Chaterjee said that instead of functioning as an independent investigation agency, the CBI is scripting a screenplay with a motive of political vengeance.
