Days after an elderly man was allegedly burnt alive by his son in a dispute over money from the sale of some trees in the Ranaghat area of the Nadia district, the mother of the accused, who also sustained burn injuries during the incident, died late on Sunday night. The father of the accused, Baidyanath Biswas, died within hours of the incident on Friday.
Nadia Superintendent of Police Sheesh Ram Jhajharia told The Hindu on Monday that “the accused Abodh Biswas’s mother Saraswati Biswas succumbed to her injuries late on Sunday night.” The incident took place in the Rabanbar village in the district’s Ranaghat police station area.
Mr. Jhajharia said that it’s “still not clear” whether the intention of the accused was to kill only his father or both his parents. “We are yet to find out how Mr. Biswas’s mother, Saraswati Biswas, sustained burn injuries,” said Mr. Jhajharia. The accused, Abodh Biswas, also sustained burn injuries and is undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
