Matang Sinh remanded in five-day CBI custody

Former Union Minister Matang Sinh who was arrested by the CBI for his alleged involvement in the multi crore Saradha scam was remanded in five days of CBI custody here on Saturday. He was arrested on January 31and charged with criminal conspiracy, misappropriation of funds and cheating.

His arrest led to a major controversy culminating in the removal of Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami. Mr Goswami was sacked allegedly for interfering with the CBI in stalling Mr Sinh’s arrest.

After his arrest, Mr Sinh was admitted to State-run hospitals. The Enforcement Directorate has recently attached properties of Mr Sinh valuing several crores.

The former Union Minister’s name had figured in Saradha Group owner Sudipta Sen’s letter to the CBI written days before the scam Kingpin arrest in April 2013.

Meanwhile, in another development the West Bengal police arrested owner of another company, which had raised deposits from market. URO Group of Companies chairperson Biswapriya Giri was remanded in 12 days of police custody by a sub divisional court during the day
