: Five bodies were recovered from two separate flats in Kolkata on Thursday. The police believed that Shankar Malakar, middle-aged man, had committed suicide after killing his family members.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Malakar, a real estate promoter, appears to have had two wives . While the body of his first wife and son were recovered from his residence at Harinavi in the southern part of Kolkata, Malakar’s body and that of his second wife and daughter were recovered from Garfa in south-eastern part of the city.
Commenting on the recovery of bodies from the flat in Garfa, Joint Commissioner of City Police (Crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh said that the flat was locked from inside.
“There were signs of scuffle inside the flat. There were stab injuries and the child (daughter) seems to have died of asphyxiation. We have recovered a blade and a knife,” Mr Ghosh said.
Asked whether there was a link between the incidents at Harinavi and Garfa, Mr Ghosh said that preliminary investigation ‘reveals a connection.’
Interestingly, there were stab injuries on the body of Malakar, which the police suspect happened during a scuffle with his second wife.
