Two days after the death of a Madrasa student, Amiruddin Khan (16), who was set on fire in Purba Medinipur district of Bengal, the probe has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
When contacted, Inspector General (IG) Law and Order of Bengal Anuj Sharma confirmed the development on Friday.
Amiruddin Khan, a student of Madrasa Hafiz-e-Quran at Bhagwanpur village in the district, passed away on Tuesday, after being set on fire by ‘a group of men’ about two weeks ago.
Anuj Sharma said that the State police have not identified any suspects in the case so far.
“There have not been any arrests in the case until now,” Mr Sharma said. “The family of the boy is depressed but they do not see any perceived threat to other family members,” Rabin Khan, uncle of Amiruddin, told The Hindu .
Amiruddin was tied to a window of the Madrasa and set afire on October 21. “The men could not be identified by the locals,” Bengal president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, Siddikullah Chowdhury said earlier.
He had nearly 70 per cent burns to his body. Later he was shifted to a hospital in south Kolkata, but eventually succumbed to his injuries.
